Urban Retreat

Lúnasa

A Yin and Yang Urban Retreat

Saturday August 25th
11:00-16.30

A enriching day long retreat to channel the yin and yang energies in the body..

This time of year in the Celtic calendar is a celebration of the harvest, of aliveness and growth  - in essence the yang of life. With the harvest comes a clearing, an uprooting of that which is no longer required to make way for new growth – the practice of yin will support us in cultivating this receptivity.

Yin is a practice that targets the ‘yin’ tissues of the body. It is a complement to more ‘yang’ activities such as other forms of yoga, sport and gym programmes. Poses are held for minutes at a time to target the deeper layers of connective tissue while simultaneously promoting and maintaining mobility. The longer holds of poses in Yin Yoga support a meditation practice.

The Nature of Stillness

In this workshop we will focus on one of the main features of a Yin Yoga practice and what stillness means in a Yin Yoga context. Physically, energetically and mentally how can we cultivate the quality of stillness? How can we bring stillness and ease to our minds when facing the physical challenges of some Yin Yoga poses?

The workshop will address these questions and allow time for reflection and delving deeper into our existing yoga practice. We will include meditation, practice, pranayama, and end with an extended Shavasana.

Yin for Hips and Hamstrings

Are your hips tight from sitting at a desk or long stints in the car? Have you a tightness in the hamstrings after a hard training session?

In this workshop, we will look at how Yin can be applied to improve flexibility and mobility of the hips. This workshop is suitable for yogis and non-yogis alike. This workshop may be particularly beneficial for athletes, runners, cyclists and gym-goers alike.

Yin for Shoulders

Do your shoulders ache after hunching over your desk all day? Have you a tightness across your shoulder blades the day after a hard training session?

In this workshop, we will look at how Yin can be applied to improve flexibility and mobility of the shoulders. This workshop is suitable for yogis and non-yogis alike. This workshop may be particularly beneficial for athletes, runners, cyclists and gym-goers alike.

Yin for Stress

Do you find yourself fatigued? Do you feel like you never have enough time to yourself? The effects of a yang lifestyle, constant busyness and bombardment of media, can leave us feeling drained physically and mentally. Our nervous system is flooded and overloaded without time to wind down and chill out. When we’ve eased this tension we can feel our feelings, think more clearly and access energy more readily in the body.

This workshop affords participants time to wind down and ease tensions in the body and mind. The practice will also equip participants with tools they can use away from the mat to help manage the stresses of daily life.
